Cape Flattery – Washington

Images of Cape Flattery – Northwestern Washington, taken in May 2017.

Having been to the southernmost point in the contiguous United States, Key West Florida, it was only natural that I should take the opportunity to visit Cape Flattery, the northwestern most point in the contiguous United States. This is the oldest permanently named feature in Washington State, named by James Cook on March 22 1778.

I got there late in the day after an attempt to see Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park and as with the ridge, it was overcast here too. It was a fairly easy hike out to the point where I was rewarded with another dramatic shoreline and lucky enough to capture a Bald Eagle flying overhead with dinner; an unlucky common murre.
