Badlands National Park – South Dakota

Badlands National Park is an almost otherworldly experience. The strange peaks and valleys cut into the grassland prairie extend for miles and seem desolate and uninhabitable. It’s a beautiful yet frustrating place as you could take a million pictures one day and come back the next day and take a million more, not one resembling any previously taken. The scene constantly changes with the movement of the sun across the sky; shadows lengthen and shrink, clouds affect the strength of the light reaching the ground or create new shadows bent over peaks and filling valleys. Then there are the differing colors and hues of sunrise and sunset or an occasional rainbow combined with what the rain does to the pigment of the landscape. Frustrating yet incredibly fascinating!
