Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument – Oregon

Created in June of 2000, Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument was recently (January 2017) expanded by over 35%. The park is run by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) rather than the National Parks Service (NPS) so it is a little less developed from the national park standpoint. The difference between the two organizations lies in their missions. BLM is tasked with managing the usage of natural resources while the NPS is tasked with protecting natural resources. So while the NPS does not allow activities like logging, grazing and mining the BLM does. Usage verses protection. For people on both sides of the issue this can create a conflict of interest.

I was able to visit the old as well as the new park areas. Unfortunately it was cloudy over both but it was clear how beautiful the views were in each.
