Established in 1947 Theodore Roosevelt National Park, its badlands cut by the Little Missouri River, was for several years in the 1880’s home to future president of the United States Theodore Roosevelt. It was here that he developed his conservationist vision leading to his signing of the 1906 Antiquities Act, the subsequent establishment of 18 National Monuments and, along with Congress, five National Parks. As president, Roosevelt protected over 230 million acres of land.
