Wrigley Field – Illinois

‘How can I be expected to stay in my RV on a day like today?’

Now unlike Ferris Bueller, every day is a day off for me but with clear skies and temperatures in the low 80s doing my normal Sunday cleaning and laundry just seemed wrong! There would be no Ferrari joyrides and there’s no way I would ever sing in a parade but I’m parked outside of Chicago, the Cubs were in town and on a day like this I needed to be at Wrigley Field.

So with camera in hand and a Standing Room Only ticket I made my way around Wrigley Field intent on documenting a day at the ballpark. You see I learned years ago that taking pictures of the game from the seats could never rival what I had done in the ten years that I shot sports at Georgia Tech; so why do it, instead I decided to make the ballpark and everything surrounding it the main subject. After all it is one of the most interesting and iconic sporting arenas on the planet! From the ivy on the outfield wall to the giant manual scoreboard; from the fans in the bleachers to the fans on the rooftops; from the old bars adjoining the stadium to the firehouse of Engine Company 78 and the surrounding neighborhood, Wrigley Field is a wealth of unique and fascinating old world baseball sights and sounds. Add in the city of Chicago as a backdrop, Hall of Fame pitcher Fergie Jenkins signing autographs, a visit by Civil Rights Leader Reverend Jesse Jackson, and seeing the 2016 World Series Championship banner flying over the stadium and you have everything you need to present a comprehensive photo documentation of this incredible old ballpark!

So I was a no-show on laundry day; Bueller…Bueller…Pillarelli…Pillarelli…
