Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park – South Rim - Colorado

The south rim of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is the most easily accessible and therefore most visited area of the park. I spent most of my time here for that very reason as it was closest to my parking spot in the town of Montrose. The 12 outlooks on the south rim all provided spectacular views and I took the hike to Warner Point and also drove into the canyon for a short hike along the Gunnison River. Because of the narrowness and depth of the canyon it was imperative that I visited the overlooks at different times of the day to view all the areas in the best light but it was the early morning sun streaming over the canyon walls and illuminating the Painted Wall that was the most spectacular sight of the visit.
