Sequoia National Park – California

Going from Death Valley into the High Sierras to visit Sequoia National Park provided relief from the heat but continued to yield impressive sites and experiences. This area boasts the massive Sequoia trees to include the largest of all the General Sherman. This tree, which is considered the largest on earth, is 35 feet in diameter at the base (109 feet circumference) and at 1400 tons is the most massive living thing on the planet (equivalent to 15 adult blue whales!). Throughout the Sequoia groves are a number of impressive trees but the Senate and House groupings were particularly interesting as they included a number of Sequoias in close proximity to each other. The challenge for me was how to photographically represent the size and stature of these amazing trees, so when in doubt include a human (see image number 2 for scale).
