Kings Canyon National Park – California

The massive mountains of the High Sierras yield to glacier cut towering granite cliffs in Kings Canyon National Park. At 8200 feet this is one of the deepest canyons in the United States but it is the view from within the canyon of the spectacular cliffs that amaze. To get to the canyon portion of the park (there is also a Sequoia Grove area that is adjacent to Sequoia National Park) you must travel the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway. This route traces along the South Fork Kings River and also provides spectacular canyon views. During my entire trip this was the only area where I ran into anything but clear weather, however, the intermittent light rain didn’t slow me down as I took in the sights and hiked the Zumwalt Meadow Trail.
