Death Valley National Park – California

Images of Death Valley National Park – in central California, taken in June 2013.

So let’s get this out of the way, it was a little warm in Death Valley National Park. Officially it was 125 degrees my first day there and 129 degrees the second, however, on day one my car registered 136 degrees on the road between Furnace Creek and where I was staying, Stovepipe Wells…see the picture below! When the air temperature is that high the ground temperature can be 170 to 200 degrees but it’s a dry heat…only blast furnace hot! As I told everyone leading up to this trip, “Anyone can tour Death Valley in the winter…”

From Badwater, the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere at 282 feet below sea level, to the tortured valley floor at the Devils Golf Course, the colorful Artists Drive and the spectacular view of it all from 5475 feet above the valley at Dantes View; Death Valley is an amazing place to see at any temperature.
