Channel Islands National Park – California

One hour west of Los Angeles sits the five mile long island of Anacapa, one of five islands that make up Channel Islands National Park. I traveled by boat to the island of East Anacapa and spent the day hiking through the abundant wildlife. This is a safe haven for the Brown Pelican, which as late as 1970 faced extinction; however, it was the estimated 30,000 nesting Seagulls, including their newly hatched chicks, which made me feel like I had stepped into a National Geographic documentary. It was an amazing site that complimented the beauty of the island which boasts Arch Rock in the waters off of its eastern tip and an incredible view of Middle and West Anacapa at Inspiration Point on its western end.
