This is my solo motorcycle trip to Alaska in June, 2009 (timed for the summer solstice). I drove to Dawson Creek, B.C. to start the Alaska Highway at Mile 0 and took it to Mile 1422 at the terminus of the Alaska Highway in Delta Junction. I continued to Fairbanks and drove the Dalton Highway (featured on "Ice Truckers") to Deadhorse at Prudhoe Bay. I returned to Fairbanks to run the Midnight Sun Fun Run for the Solstice Festival. I cut out Denali National Park in order to have sufficient time to drive (400 miles!!!) back down the Alaska Highway to catch my ferry in Skagway. From Whitehorse to Skagway I drove through White Pass, an incredible drive. Absolutely incredible. From Skagway I ferried to Juneau where I spent 2.5 days hiking and touring Tracy Arm Fjord by boat. I also toured the State Capitol but I did not get to meet Sarah Palin! From Juneau I ferried to Prince Rupert, B.C. and drove home from there. Besides weather and bad roads, I worked through a stretched drive chain, burnt out headlight, several blown fuses (until I figured out how to use my heated clothing within the limits of my power outlet), complete rear brake failure, a dump in some deep gravel, a blown head gasket (discovered after I got home), a failed water pump seal (caused by the head gasket) and a coolant leak that almost nixed my getting home.
