SAD NEWS ABOUT JIM FLAVIN: Jim passed away unexpectedly at the beginning of September 2014. Jim was the most prolific photographer and captured a wide range of subjects, with hundreds of high quality images that everyone could enjoy. Because this gallery is his personal pBase one, by subscription, I do not know how long it will be available. On the Zone8 Photo Society Jim has a small gallery so I plan to try and download a representative selection of his more recent images and post them there. Once that has been completed, visitors here will be able to view at least a selection even when the subscription for his own gallery (i.e. this) vanishes in time. I cannot post a fully active link here (pBase rules) but you can get to the Society's pBase galleries by just using this link - just remove the three underscores and delete their resultant gaps to get a full link. http:_//_.www._pbase.com/ZPS Very sad news to lose such a good man at such a young age and especially one with such a talent and love for photography.
Well done Jim for continuing the collection. Most recent make for a good mixed bunch.

A continuing good range of different subjects Jim but in most cases, the ultimate quality is lost due using such a high ISO rating. Pity you cannot use some sticky tape to fix the ISO to maximum 200 as would be fine for 99% of the shots I feel. Never mind - you are still a prolific worker with good compositional abilities.
Latest results from your Canons are far superior when using the lower ISO ratings Jim. Even so, the latest ones (9th Sept 2013) show outstandingly brilliant shots from the Sigma SD14. In simple shots (like thye hill with different colours and textures) a simple subject almost leaps "off the page". Great collection of work building all the time.
Over all your galleries Jim you have shown a good sense of capturing high quality images relevant to the conditions. As you said recently, the Foveon sensor ones do tend to stand out amongst a good collection, although the Canon ones when ISO 100 or 200 are used look to be a big improvement on those using 400 and definitely a big improvement on any using higher ISO ratings.
Superb galery with a lot of great shots. It's a real pleasure for the eyes to look at your pictures. ~BV~

The latest (July 23,2012) bird shots have some nice ones amongst them Jim. Good job you did not capture the smells as well! :-)

As you mentioned to me in an e-mail Jim - the Sigma (Foveon sensor) images just stand out from all the others.

Some nice, well deserved comments Jim. You are building up a good collection. The kitesailors-3 shot with wind movement is one of your best action shots - not rigidly frozen and full of tension.
