Spreadwing Damselflies (Family Lestidae)

These damselflies are generally larger than the pond damselflies and are easily recognized at rest by the way they hold their wings out to a 45-degree angle. Spreadwings prefer smaller, still-water environments and can often be seen perching on vertical stalks of vegetation with their abdomen angled downward. They are among the more beautiful damselflies with their metallic bronze or green colouration.
