The first Blue Dasher in the OFNC circle was seen in 2010 at the Baxter Conservation Area by Christine Hanrahan. In July 2011 I visited Petrie Island and discovered the first known colony in our region! While they have shown up subsequently at Mud Lake, Shirley's Bay and Constance Creek, I do not know if those colonies are thriving the way the one at Petrie Island has. Males have a blue abdomen with a black tip, a yellow and black thorax, and green eyes. Females are black and yellow and lack the blue pruinosity.
