I first saw this huge raptor flying over the boardwalk on which I was standing with two ravens in pursuit. The goshawk was slightly larger than the ravens. It flew back into the woods, but the ravens lost it when they flew over the trees. I thought I would have to be satisfied with that view, until I walked back into the woods, rounded the corner and found her sitting on a branch at eye level only 30 feet away. Somehow she didn't see me there so I was able to watch and photograph her for a couple of minutes.
This is only the second goshawk I've ever seen and the first I have photographed. Interestingly, I saw my first one in almost the same spot at Jack Pine Trail about 3 years ago. It was an adult - quite possibly this young bird's parent!
