Virginia Rail

Moodie Drive Marsh

I was playing a recording of a Sora calling and this Virginia Rail responded! She came right out into the open with a fuzzy black chick scampering in the marsh behind her.
(If any Soras were present they didn't respond. I have yet to actually see one of these rails!)

Hi Gillian. I've seen this behaviour many times, Virginia rails responding to sora calls. Unfortunately it doesn't work in reverse. Try the Bill Mason Centre, Jack Pine Trail, Bruce Pit, or Lake Avalon in Orleans...I've seen sora at all of these locations, and they should respond to playback. Good luck!
