Common Green Darner, male
(Anax junius)

Hurdman Park

I have been trying to photograph an adult male Common Green Darner since the first time I became acquainted with this species. I usually see adults only in flight, while newly emerged individuals with bright pink abdomens are more likely to be seen perching in vegetation close to the ground. I startled this one up from where it was perching in the grass, watched it zip around for a couple of minutes, and was lucky enough to see where it landed after .

You did very well to get a photo of this species, especially this brilliantly colored male! I know well from my own experience how difficult this accomplishment is! Yes, it is an accomplishment I can't claim for myself!
