Wherever Common Redpolls were abundant, the wise birder would patiently scan the flock in the hope of finding the occasional Hoary Redpoll. These finches are
paler, with less streaking along the flanks, white rumps and white undertails. However, Common Redpolls may occasionally show some of these traits as well,
making identification tricky. We were fortunate to get a look at both species during an OFNC trip to Amherst Island where I was able to capture them together.
