Ichneumon Wasps (Family Ichneumonidae)

Ichneumon Wasps are slender, non-stinging wasps with long antennae and long ovipositors. Many are hard to identify; there are about 60,000 species worldwide, with 5,000 described species in almost 500 genera in the Nearctic Region. My favourite Ichneumon wasps are those in the genus Megarhyssa, and fortunately there are only four species to contend with in the northeast.
