The spread-winged skippers, subfamily Pyrginae, tend to rest with their wings spread unlike other skipper species. In eastern Ontario members include Silver-spotted Skipper, the cloudywings, and the duskywings. The duskywings can be one of the most difficult groups of butterflies to identify to species; separating Columbine from Wild Indigo Duskywing is a difficult challenge that relies partially on understanding the larval foodplants in the area.
