The Eastern Amberwing is one of the smallest dragonflies in our region as well as one of the easiest to identify: males have bright orange wings, while females have clear wings with irregular brown markings. Their spindle-shaped abdomen is brown with yellow rings, giving it a wasp-like appearance. Males are quite territorial and readily perch on vegetation or rocks within the water, waiting for females and male intruders. Both sexes feed away from the water.
