Motorcycle Trailer

This is a motorcycle trailer I built before my wife and I went to the Canadian Maritimes. I started with a harbor frieght trailer kit as it was cheaper to buy the kit than buy the parts piecemeal. All I used was the axle, springs, and lights. The rest of the frame is Unistrut, and perforated metal. The tongue is 1.5 inch tubing. The hitch is a heim joint as is used on a 4 point hitch. Having the joint attached to the motorcycle prevents bending the hitch if the trailer jacknifes. The 8 inch tires are fine, and save #20 of weight. The car top carrier is from Pep Boys. Contrary to what is usually done, you do not need a deck on these trailers. All we ever carry is a couple of duffel bags, so the carrier is plenty strong. Personally, I see people with huge trailers and see an accident waiting to happen. This trailer weighs #140 and will hold most of our gear, and gives you a place to lock up your jackets when stopped. The idea is to unload the bike, which reduces fatigue. I have hauled mine over 10,000 miles, and it really disappears once you are moving.
