These are the crash bars I made for my Connie. The simple tipover bars sold by Murph and others would not do much good if you were moving, so I came up with something a little better. I do not mind riding on gravel, so added protection is necessary. These also give a great place to mount some highway pegs. The mounts were machined out of aluminum, and are not that hard to make. The idea was for the bars to be able to bend back rather than breaking the engine cases.
The trailer hitch also mounts the rear crash bars. After I added the loops for the crash bars, I realized that it would be a real job to remove them for a tire change, so I made the left side removeable. I tested these out in a parking lot in the Bamff Ntl Park in Alberta. I got disoriented on a hill that was actually going in a direction different than how it looked and over I went......It is funny how something like that could have ended my trip right there.
