There had been many city walls in Xi'an but all were destroyed in the long history. The existing one was constructed in 1370 during the Ming Dynasty. It measures about 14 km in circumference, 12 m in height, and 15-18 m in thickness at the base; a moat was also built outside the walls.
As a symbol of the city of Xi'an, the Drum Tower, together with the Bell Tower, was erected in 1380 also during the early Ming Dynasty.
Not matter for tourists or for locals, Xi'an is famous for gastronomic specialties too.
