The Jokhang, (大昭寺) is a famous Buddhist temple.
It was originally built during the reign of king Songsten Gampo (605?-650 CE), the name "Jokhang" means the 'House of the Lord'.
Today Jokhang is a symbol of the Tibetan Buddihsm. It is also the location of the precious golden statue of Gautama Buddha at age of 12, which was brought to Tibet by Princess WenCheng from the Tang Dynasty of China in 637 AD.
