Fireworks on New Year's Eve

Ancient Chinese believed that the "Year" is a monster, and it came once a year to hurt the children. The best way to drive it away is to fire the crackers, as the big noise and light would scare the "Year" so it would run away. When I was a child, we played mostly only crackers, but now, people fire more fireworks, which light up the sky, and it goes on the whole night long...
