It's not often that one gets excited about an airport. But anyone who flys through Madrid can not help but get enthusiastic about the new T4 terminals at Madrid Barajas airport.

We arrive past 7:30AM after an overnight flight to Madrid. We're a bit tired as we take the shuttle bus to T4 terminal for our connecting flight to Malaga. But as soon as we walk into the new T4 terminal, we're wide awake. T4 is what every major airport should look, feel, and function like. It's large, spacious, efficient, and above all, architecturally engaging. You feel as if you're in the movie 2001 Space Odyssey on your way to the moon.

I snap these shots of T4 coming and going. Actually T4 consists of two seperate new terminals, one for domestic flights, the other for international departures. They're mirror images of each other.
