From Montreux we traveled southeast to Zermatt. En route, we stopped to the see the Roman amphitheater in Martigny and, also, the quaint town of Sion known for its raclette cheese and fortress-topped twin peaks. We arrived in traffic-free Zermatt by cogwheel train. Zermatt, while quite beautiful, is most known as the starting spot to travels into the nearby alps to see the Matterhorn, although that proved to be more elusive that we had hoped.
