Following our stay in Lisbon, we board the train for Porto. The high speed train reached speeds of 120 mph on high speed track. Porto is a beautiful city on the banks of the Douro River. A very hilly town, Porto is full of amazing architecture. A walking tour of Porto treated us to the sights of this lovely city. Because of the hilly terrain, we all welcomed the "splash" (1/3 white porto, 2/3 tonic, ice and lemon) upon our return to the hotel. Our evening meal was at DOP where we enjoyed the cuisine of one of Portugal's best chefs, Rui Paula. The next morning we crossed the river to visit the port lodge of Taylor Fladgate and our first introduction to the various styles of port. Following the port tasting we had what was described as a light lunch of tapas. Turns out "light" must mean something different in Portuguese as we were treated to 14 different tapas that were all spectacular. And then off to Pinhao by train.
