From Lucerne, we traveled west to Montreux on Lake Geneva. The beautiful resort town was in the final stages of preparation for the world famous Montreux Jazz Festival. En route to Montreux, we stopped in Bern, seeing the famous Bern bear pits, Einstein's home, and the clock tower that was part of the inspiration for Einstein's theory of relativity. Before reaching Montreux, the group visited the mideval Chillon Castle on Lake Geneva. From Montreux, we went into the Vaud Alps to visit the fortified town of Gruyeres. We also were treated to a short cruise on Lake Geneva aboard a historic paddle-wheeler and a city tour of Geneva.
