We boarded the Palace on Wheels the afternoon of October 14. The train traveled overnight to Jaipur, also known as the Pink City. Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and was founded in 1727. We viewed the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) with its high screened wall to allow women to observe street activities without being seen. We visited the Amber Fort (15920, the City Palace (1732) and the Jantar Mantar (1738), an observatory consisting of a collection of astronomical instruments built by Sawai Jai Singh II.
