We traveled by bus from Pinhao to the Barirada region and Coimbra, another beautiful city with an interesting old city and the University of Coimbra. Coimbra was the capital of Portugal from 1139 to 1256. En route, we has a tasting and lunch at the quinta of Luis Pato. In Coimbra, we stayed at the fabulous Quinta das Lagrimas with its extensive gardens and grounds. A walking tour of Coimbra gave us a chance to enjoy the old city before dining at the Quinta das Lagrimas. The following morning we visited Quinta dos Roques, a winery that looks modest on the outside, but surprises inside. Following some free time in Coimbra the group enjoyed a light supper of tapas.
