8/1: Controversial House

This house is the source of much controversy in our neighborhood. The colors are not on the approved Association list and the neighbors would not sign the forms allowing this color. However, the Association Board of Directors received a petition from the owner of the home and for some reason, decided to allow it. This has caused a number of letters to be circulated to all homeowners in the neighborhood. The expected result is that some Board members, due up for renewal in the near future, will NOT be reelected!!

Since I am too lazy and disinterested to vote, it doesn't really make much difference to me. And, to tell the truth, I kind of like the colors (don't tell my neighbors).

Our association is pretty tight too. I don't much care for the restrictions...on the other hand, I don't want a purple house with a car on blocks sitting next door.

Imagine THIS house next door:

when ya stomp on your left foot you can't feel the pain in your right, ojoy oboy, soon we will all be legislated and homogenized
Guest 11-Aug-2005 07:50
so are you only allowed to leave your car outside your house if it's a certain colour.
Guest 08-Aug-2005 04:16
Ok, I like the colorsm and you can tell that the neighbors :-D

Scary that people would either allow this to happen to themselves OR to think that it would make sense to enforce it on others. My curiosity is raised too, WHAT are the approved colors? What if you have kids who leave fingermarks and a dog who slobbers on the colors? Is this to be admonished for as well?
Guest 07-Aug-2005 15:24
I look forward to the day when all we have to worry about are the colors that a house is painted. Actually, I kinda like the colors. I might feel a bit different if it were hot pink or neon green though. :-)

These kind of rules and regulations make me shake my head. My daughter's condo won't allow outside air conditioners as they swelter along this hot August..

ahhhh, this is the type of thing that makes all the good in the world go pale by comparison. The day the neighbours pay my bills they can have a say in what goes on, but since that wont ever happen then....oh & I love the colours...!!
Lee Rudd03-Aug-2005 19:35
I dread to think what non controversial colours are on the approved list!
Guest 03-Aug-2005 11:51
This must be Pleasantville, right? Only approved colors?

On one hand you can understand how ANARCHY can just jump right out and take control of our neighborhoods, and allow the BAD PEOPLE and the BAD COLORS to interfere! We better stop 'em!

On the other hand, who gives a crap? Not me. Looks like a nice little mix of pastels that would go very nicely in many places. What to do, what to do?
Guest 03-Aug-2005 01:43
Those colors looks fine to me...
I think it makes the house look very happy and inviting!
Rochelle Weiss03-Aug-2005 00:33
I kind of like these colors, too. One can tell your house from your neighbor's.
Al Chesworth02-Aug-2005 23:34
Interesting, your nieghbourhood is much like many others, including mine too many busybodies. Spending life moaning instead of seeing the good side of life.
Elaine (etfitz)02-Aug-2005 22:24
Glad that I can paint my house any color I want, though I was very happy when my neighbor started to paint her's a very bright yellow didn't like the color and painted it a nice green instead!
Guest 02-Aug-2005 21:56
Looks like a nice hose to me - nice shot -
Guest 02-Aug-2005 21:38
Uh oh! I kinda like the colors too!! We can't all be tan and beige.
JW02-Aug-2005 20:35
I think the Board have a perfectly valid point. This sort of tasteless colour scheme illustrates what happens when ordinary people are given too much freedom, and should be a lesson to us all!

(only kidding ...... LOL)
Sheena Woodhead02-Aug-2005 20:11
Hey, the colours look okay to me. Quite conservative compated to some I've seen.
Gary Winters02-Aug-2005 17:18
See, this is what I hate about home owner associations. Little dictatorships! I once lived in a place that cited me for an improper wind chime, for crying out loud. It's ridiculous! And this house looks fine. Hmmmph...
Chris02-Aug-2005 16:43
Kind of thought that blue picked up the odd slate brick. Green and blue is a nice combo anyway. Reflected in the grass and sky. Anarchistic bastards. :)

My house in the suburbs was really boring. It's nice to live in the country again where you can build as you please.
uofmtiger02-Aug-2005 15:07
Ahhh...suburban life..I LOVE IT!
Di02-Aug-2005 14:42
I absolutely despise HOA's. I rather like the muted green myself...don't care for the blue trim but hey, I don't have to call the place "home".
J. Scott Coile02-Aug-2005 14:31
I like the color too. Really creative in the combination. Too many people gettin' in other's bidness ;)
Guest 02-Aug-2005 13:48
Too many laws and regulations. I like the colors also.
Guest 02-Aug-2005 13:21
LOL at the end of your caption, Jeremy! Those colours are not bad at all! (or maybe there is a little too many)
Thanks for sharing that story ;-)
Robin Reid02-Aug-2005 13:08
Well it is clear that their mailbox is too white! ;-0
We have the same kind of rules in my area. It can get really ridiculous. This is a fine color.
nomadicdragon02-Aug-2005 12:59
I'm with Russ. It definitely could be worse. ech. pink.
Guest 02-Aug-2005 12:20
This is really tame compared to some of the color combos we have in our neighborhood like electric urine yellow and poo brown. I like the colors here and your story behind the photo.
Rene Hales02-Aug-2005 11:56
I like the colors. We ran into the neighborhood association thing too. We put in a fence for our 3 dogs before we even knew there WAS an association (our builder told us there wasn't). Then we found out you had to have prior approval for fences. We got it after the fact. LOL--Rene
grafix7202-Aug-2005 10:41
Could be worse...could be pink :)
Chris Sofopoulos02-Aug-2005 10:03
It's nice!
Karen Stuebing02-Aug-2005 08:53
So much for individualism and the right to express yourself in your own home. You wouldn't have a problem here in WV with reelecting the board members because someone would have burned down their houses the minute they tried to impose one single rule. :) I like the colors too and I won't tell. ;)
Guest 02-Aug-2005 07:16
rules are meant to be broken. did you feel like a pi sneaking this shot? :)
steve mcsweeny02-Aug-2005 07:06
Petty peaple! Nice shot,Love the colors;)
Guest 02-Aug-2005 06:30
I appreciate the principle behind their distress ... but what about world hunger, poverty, violence, war??? :)
Sheila02-Aug-2005 05:00
It looks fine. There are more important things to worry about! Like what to take for PAD , LOL!

I'm waiting to see WHY it is controversial but I'll guess...That ugly butterfly thing? LOL!!
