Myoe Daung Monastery, Bagan (Dec 06)

This is one of the few surviving religious structures in Bagan that is constructed of wood. The Myoe Daung complex actually has two monasteries, with numerous pyathats, pavilions, rest houses and ancillary buildings. The main monastery building, with an east-west orientation, is about 130 ft x 115 ft in size. A main feature of the monastery is its numerous woodcarvings dating back to the Konbaung Dynasty period from the mid to late 19th century.

I was also fascinated by this amazing building, Jeremy. In my own image of it, I chose to stress only a few of these many carvings. (http://www.pbase.com/image/40196923 )
