The pathway down to the waterfall goes behind the fall at this point, through a cave tunnel known as the Water-Curtain Cave as inscribed in Chinese characters on the stone tablet. The cave tunnel is 134m long, and has 6 cave windows along its length opening into the water, where you can watch, hear and even touch the thunderous flow of the water as it plummets down to the foot of the fall.
The Water-Curtain Cave of the Huangguoshu Waterfall is perhaps most famous as the filming site for the home of the Monkey King in the classic novel "Journey to the West".
