Those who have visited Bali would likely have seen this place. It is Tanah Lot in Bali, famed for the unique Hindu shrine honouring the sea god Baruna, perched on a rocky outcrop in the sea.
Tanah Lot translates to “Land in the Sea”. At low tide, you may cross a short causeway to reach the base of the shrine where the legendary ‘guardian’ sea snakes dwell in crevices around the ‘Tirta Pabersihan’ fountain. Priests there would bless visitors by sprinkling them with the water from the fountain. At high tides, waves flood the causeway making it impossible to cross.
The main temple grounds of Tanah Lot however, are only for praying pilgrims and closed to visitors.
When we reached here, the place was enjoying one of its famed great sunset days. The entire area was crowded with people. There was no way this crowd was going to clear even after sunset, so I just took a photo of the scene with all the people in it from here, and proceeded to join the rest of the group for dinner …
