The temples of Khajuraho are the most frequently visited monuments in India after Taj (or so it is claimed). The temples are of Indo-Aryan architecture and were built between the 9th and 11th centuries. Today, 25 out of about 85 temples built still remain, in varying degrees of preservation.

An enigmatic feature of the Khajuraho temples is the various erotic sculptures carved on the walls of the temples. To this date, the question why erotic and obscene sculptures should exist in a place of worship still intrigues many visitors, and gives rise to controversy.
