Somewhere there's a bird with the mother of all headaches. At some point during the night an owl must have decided our guest bedroom would do rather nicely as a roost. Coming in to land on the guest bed it had a cartoon moment on one of the window panes and left its mark. It's surprising how much of a mark there is too -- almost as though it had routed around a sack of flour immediately before its kamikaze attack on our house. For the record, its wingspan is 64cm and I assume it survived, there being no trace of feathers or owl corpse in the garden.
