Goodbye, Charlie!
6-27-06

If I were to be asked that question, "Who is the one person you would like to have dinner with?" my answer would be
Charles Gibson.
I have been a faithful watcher of Good Morning America since 1990.
As soon as I heard Charlie was leaving GMA to host World News Tonight, I contacted ABC
to get a spot on the show for June 28th.
I was so excited last week when I got a generic e-mail stating that confirmation would follow via e-mail in 2-3 days
after I responded back. Well, I did, immediately.
As of today, I never got that 2nd e-mail, so I sent another e-mail.
The response was that it is a special show for Charlie and it will be first come first serve basis! Be there by 6am to "maybe" get a spot inside!
The weather is not good on the East Coast with flash flood warnings everywhere.
I am sad because I know the best choice would be NOT to drive 3 hours to NYC in the middle of the night alone in flood waters!
What would you do?

I felt the same way when I lost Peter Jennings to cancer on the World News Tonight broadcast. At the time, I felt that Charles shoud have been offered the position (even though it would have been at your GMA expense). I think that now he is where he really wants to be. Sorry for your loss though : )
I think he is currently the finest journalist on television.

FYI~ Did not track to NYC. I like Roy's response and will do just that! Celebrate the new instead...Thanks for all the feedback! And, I don't consider Charlie a "celebrity"~ probably because I have had coffee with him for the last 16 years!

If it were me, I would visit the studio some evening
when he is broadcasting World News Tonight.
This way I could choose my weather and avoid the crowds.

Personally, I wouldn't drive across the street to see a "celebrity", but if it's important to you, tape the show in case you don't get in, and go get in line...Good Luck!

As I get older I find that there are fewer people that I would drive that far for and the ones that I would drive that far for would have to be very close to me. That being said, I have never been real big on celebrities. As my wife would say, if your going to regret not doing it, do it.

The television will afford you the front row seat
that driving all that way in the rain, through midtown
traffic in the Big Apple, probably won't.
Stay dry and safe instead Jen.
We value you here.
