“So how was the food in Rome?”
Pretty awesome by all accounts. Our culinary adventure focused mainly on smaller family owned establishments with emphasis on what the Roman’s call street food. Street food to the Romans, doesn’t necessarily mean food from street carts, it simply means food from non-traditional sit down establishments. I doubt we spent more than €40 per day on food (although it helped that many places sold beer for only €1.50). Were we too frugal, I will let the pictures do the talking.
Highlights included: Suppli (rice balls), Porchetta Sandwiches, and the world’s best coffee (cappuccino and espresso). Almost forgot the Gelato! And the Tiramisu! And the Biscotti. And of course, the Caco de pepe … and the Pizza, wow the pizza! And all the wine bars, and … and the outdoor farmers markets …
Also, you should go to Italy for the wine… we all know this, but you may stay for the Beer! No joke, some of the best beer I have ever had was in Rome, this was unexpected. Also, you can buy good beer everywhere, even from street cart vendors, and legally consume it in public ... heaven.
Here is a foodie tour map I made before our trip. We managed to hit every location and I can recommend each one!
