Boston turned 7 years old on July 3rd 2004. Instead of buying him a bunch of toys (he has way to many already) we decided on a family camping weekend. This would turn out to be no ordinary camping trip however, since Boston's birthday coeincided with the Independence Day long weekend. On Saturday (July 3rd) we spent the day a Squaw Valley Mountain resort, home of the 1960 Winter Olympics. We purchased lift tickets to ride the Gondola to 'High Camp' ... a resort situated at 8500ft elevation. High Camp offers stunning views of the Sierra Nevada's and Lake Tahoe while offering year-round outdoor skating and swimming! After a day of skating and swimming on the mountain we returned to the Sqauw Valley village where we had a pizza Birthday party for Boston. As if that wasn't enough, I also arranged for the resort to hold thier annual Fireworks show a day early in honor of Boston's birthday.
We spent most of Saturday (July 4) hanging out at the campsite or doing some fishing in the nearby Truckee River. That evening we climbed a Mountain overlooking Donner Lake to witness our second fireworks show in as many days ... and it was a good one. On Sunday (July 5) we drove down to Tahoe City and biked along the Lake Tahoe Bike trail.
