Yesterday was a day of transition.
We had our annual Peak Potential volunteer meeting/dinner. I've hosted and preside over many of them. This year was different.
As more volunteers have "stepped up", I've decided to "step down"...on both of these fronts. We have new, capable leadership, and I get to fade into the background...being just that old guy with advice because "he's been through it all before".
And, the meeting was not held at my home, but rather that of Kate and Alfred. Two more perfect hosts we couldn't have asked for. They showed extraordinary warmth and generosity as they welcomed 20+ of us into the beautiful home.
The evening held much emotion for me and it was Lily who reminded me of the essence to which all of this should be distilled. Lily jammed away with the assistance of her mom on the GuitarHero video game. She had joy in her eyes (but not because most of the songs were from the 80's...that was me) exploring her World with the support of loving arms. And, that's what we have always strived to provide for the children in our adaptive rock climbing program...as well as to each other as friends.
