I think Alan is doing a "Church Lady" impersonation here. You know...the character from Saturday Night Live soon after the show stopped being funny but before it got pathetic. But, that's just my opinion. I think you can tell the age of someone by their gauge of which SNL cast was the last funny one. Then again, I think we've hit the era where the kids don't even know what SNL is. That's fine. I'm a bit of a dinosaur...the evolution of my musical taste stalled in the 80's.
Anyway, Alan and I have been shooting kids' portraits together for a little while now. It's been fun, I think, for both of us since neither of us are afraid of looking silly. We dance, jump, and sometimes even sing to convince the kids to laugh. Then again, I've got a feeling that our singing has been actually responsible for more crying than smiling. Today, we faced our biggest challenge. Alex is one cute kid, but he's all business! From the moment we walked in, he kept a suspicious eye trained on me. I have entertained the notion of renting a giant bunny suit but today was the first time I considered it seriously. But, now and then, we'd step back far enough and Alex would direct his attention to his parents. His parents' love is what it took to disarm him for a moment and allow him to forget about the two strange-looking guys (one with a big camera and the other with a huge, UFO-like reflector). And, that's when he would reveal his wonderful smile. But, as soon as he caught sight of us again, the frown would be back as if he was thinking, "These guys are even less entertaining than the current cast of Saturday Night Live!"
