I am very fortunate to have a close family even though we may not see each other that often. The other thing about the Cheng family is that we are efficient when it comes to holidays!
We had some errands to run together such as getting my sister's cats back into New York after Mom and Dad's house became a kitty-kennel for a month. Since we were all together (a rarity), we celebrated Mother's Day a week early. It may seem a bit unsentimental, but in the end, I'm one of those cynical individuals who believes most major holidays have been created by "Hallmark" to sell billions of dollars worth of cards.
The truth is that we shouldn't need these "special" days to celebrate those people who are important in our lives. That should happen much more often than once a year. Unfortunately, I'm guilty of taking many things in my life for granted. So, here is my promise to myself and others...I'm going to honestly try to make "Hallmark" truly obsolete in my life.
Happy Mother's Day...today...and everyday.
The Cheng family spent the day at the American Museum of Natural History enjoying the Darwin exhibit. My parents along with my sister visited the Galapagos Islands a few years back so this exhibit held a certain significance for them. In classic "JenFu" bad form, I missed that trip due to medical school or residency or something silly like that.
