This trip was full of firsts, most of them good.
Meet Mary. It is hard to believe that she started climbing only a few months ago. Today, she officially transitioned from follower to leader. As a leader in climbing, you take on much more responsibility considering the increased potential for injury. Technically, leading requires a whole new set of skills. Leading is also far more physically taxing because of the need to carry more gear as well as support onself who one arm while placing the gear.
Mary had quite the impressive day, leading her first climbs outside. It was fun to watch because it was clear that this was just the beginning of what is sure to be an impressive climbing career. Hopefully I'll have a front-row seat to other milestones like today's events.
