You find some random things in the hospital.
I’m on call in the hospital tonight. I was getting settled in the call room when I came across this rose. The flower was, of course, not real. I’m not sure if that makes it more or less random.
I paused for a moment and thought about the stethoscope resting around my neck. Sometimes this little device feels like it weighs a ton. Why not? It has become, in a way, a symbol of what the physician does. But, like the rose, it still needs to be wielded with care, gentleness, and grace…a symbol of what the physician SHOULD do.
