I have a new hero.
This is a little girl who I first met a few months ago when I admitted her to the hospital. She and her family had gone through something no one should have to endure. She was seriously injured and was unable to move from the neck down.
I usually dislike being on call in the hospital but what I saw tonight made my day, week, month, and year. My little friend was WALKING down the hallway! She did stop to say hi to me but then kept on going. In tow was another little girl no older than 3 with a walker of her own, chasing after her new "big sister". At that moment, my little friend, "L", was no longer a patient but was "coach" to this other little girl.
There is so much adversity in the World, but there is also strength. That gives me hope for the future for us all.
