The weather is getting frightful. As the temps drop below freezing, one good thing happens...water transforms from liquid to solid, and then...SHAPE OF AN ICE PILLAR! Ice climbing season is upon us and tomorrow may be a good day to file off the rust from the ice tools and cramp-ons.
I'm usually chomping at the bit to get on the first ice climb of the season but today, I'm somewhat apprehensive. Could it be pure laziness? I don't really think so. There is almost this sense of foreboding or perhaps it's nerves or the sense that I have much to take care of over the next few days for work. If it is the work-thing, I really should hit the ice for a day. Then again, as a climber (and a somewhat superstitious one), it is hard to ignore these instincts.
I'll let things settle a bit and see if ice is in the cards.
Be safe on this holiday for many.
