December-22-2004

Once again, sorry for the late submission...you know, the on-call thing.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to be part of a truly good thing. One of the residents organized a show for the patients and staff of Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. It was quite an organizational feat for him but the show was a great success.
The musicians included attending physicians, resident docs, nurses, therapists, researchers, and people from all over the hospital. These people have dedicated their lives to helping individuals to heal after traumatic injuries as well as assisting to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. Before this performance, I had the greatest respect for these people. What I didn't know until yesterday was that their talents and passions far exceed that which they show in the hospital. There were seasoned, professional musicians and true rock stars as well as people who enjoyed music for the pure pleasure of it. I was in awe by their proficiency with their instruments and voices. However, the thing I truly was amazed by was the humility that they show each and every day that hides all of these other attributes.
I thank them for giving me the opportunity to put down the camera for one song and play my guitar along side them. I haven't picked up my guitar for a very long time but I will now certainly do so more often.
