Nesting Black Vulture

This gallery contains photographs of a Nesting Black Vulture I found on Hawk Mountain. This is a completely wild bird. I was told Black Vultures are much less common in Pennsylvania then Turkey Vultures. However their numbers are increasing as their range is shifting slightly north. I was very surprised to find out that vultures will nest on the ground. This one is in a small cave of a rock formation, but they will also nest in a hollow log.
The eggs are incubated approximately 42 days and the young are cared for about 85 more days.
